The Broken Arrow City Council approved use of $50,000 in lodging-tax revenues to underwrite essential startup costs, marketing and programming for a new Broken Arrow Film Festival and convention, the city’s communications recap said.
The council also approved a film and hotel incentive rebate not to exceed $53,750, to be funded from lodging-tax revenue. The production company expects a seven-day shoot of a faith-based feature, plans to hire an estimated 15–20 local residents and projects local spending of roughly $1,000,000 to $2,000,000 during production.
Separately, the council approved allowing a U.S. Army Black Hawk helicopter to take off and land at Veterans Park on Saturday, Nov. 1, to participate in the Bridal Arrow Elks Veterans Day Parade; an F-16 fighter jet will also participate in a flyover that morning. The parade is scheduled to start at 10 a.m. on Main Street in the Rose District.
Aaron McCulloch, who summarized the meeting, directed residents seeking more detail to the city’s agenda and minutes online; the recap does not include motion makers, seconds or formal vote tallies for these agenda items.
