Claremore council signs off on 2023 CDBG sewer project, hears about larger 2025 grant

The Claremore City Council voted to authorize the mayor or city staff to sign closing documents for the 2023 CDBG sewer project and received an update that the city has been awarded a 2025 CDBG grant for additional sewer-line and manhole improvements in the Original Division.

Mister Night Chief told the council, "So we're wrapping up our 20 23 CDG sewer project. It's actually the all the work's done, all the things have been completed. This is a resolution authorizing the mayor or staff to sign the next the necessary documents to execute all the closing." The resolution before the council authorized those closing steps.

The manager and staff described the small cities CDBG program as a key funding source for work the city could not previously accomplish. They warned that the 2025 CDBG will be awarded on a competitive basis, which could make it harder to secure in future cycles but would also allow larger-scale projects if Claremore is successful.

During discussion councilors and staff briefly addressed the broader scale of system needs. One staff exchange noted an estimated $140,000,000 in sewer-enhancement needs across the system, a figure described informally during the meeting.

The council moved and seconded approval of the resolution to close out the 2023 project; the clerk recorded roll-call votes in favor and the motion carried. The action completes the administrative wrap-up of the 2023 CDBG sewer work and clears the way for the city to proceed on paperwork tied to future grant planning.

The council did not specify a formal implementation timeline for the 2025 project beyond the award notice; staff said they will return with details as design and funding are finalized.
