Brookings Mayor Isaac Hodges says he will step down in January after moving out of city limits

Mayor Isaac Hodges announced at the Nov. 10 Brookings City Council meeting that he will step down as mayor because he is moving out of the city limits. He said he expects his last meeting to be Jan. 12, 2026, but he is willing to step down sooner if the council determines an earlier transition is needed.
Speaking to the council, Hodges said, "There's no salacious reason for this. I'm just simply moving out of the city limits and our rules are is that, the mayor or anyone on the council has to live within the city limits." Councilors commended Hodges for his service and noted opportunities to mark his work in future meetings.
Councilors and staff expressed appreciation for Hodges' tenure and said they will discuss transition steps in coming meetings.
