Council approves $509,319 contract with Black & Veatch to update wastewater master plan

Canton's council approved a $509,319 proposal from Black & Veatch on Nov. 20 to update the city's wastewater system master plan, a periodic requirement of the Metro North Georgia Water Planning District.
Miss Watson presented the contract request, saying the update will include wastewater-flow projections through 2070, a hydraulic conveyance evaluation, capacity planning, a capital improvements plan and a master plan report. "This plan will look at wastewater flow projections to 2070, wastewater collection and hydraulic conveyance system evaluation, wastewater capacity planning, capital improvements plan, a master plan report, and we expect this plan to take 12 months to complete," Miss Watson said.
Watson said Canton currently holds a permit to treat 7,000,000 gallons per day, operates 33 pump stations, 17 miles of force main and about 110 miles of gravity sewer. Staff recommended approval and council approved the motion by voice vote; no roll-call tally was recorded in the transcript beyond a unanimous voice vote.
Next steps: Staff will proceed with the contract and the consultant will begin the 12-month study and return findings, project lists and recommended capital priorities when the study is complete.
