The water treatment division recommended awarding a bid to Crossland Heavy Contractors for the construction and installation of a second brine tank at the city's water treatment plant to increase redundancy for sodium hypochlorite production. Staff said the additional tank will lengthen run time between refills and reduce operational risk if the existing tank becomes unavailable.

Staff ran the procurement under the state competitive bid process and reported Crossland Heavy Contractors as the lowest responsible bidder at $1,092,000. A trustee moved to approve the award, the motion was seconded and the board approved the recommendation by roll call.

The award will fund a capital project intended to improve treatment plant reliability; staff said they will return with contract documents and a construction schedule.
