Mayor Gavin Buckley used his final council meeting to thank staff, family and community partners and to list accomplishments from his eight years in office, including transportation and resilience projects, infrastructure replacements and a high city credit rating (SEG 1466-1589).
The council presented citations to dozens of community organizations and individual volunteers. Awards recognized event organizers (Kunta Kinte Heritage Festival), nonprofit service providers (Community Action Agency, OIC of Anne Arundel County, Annapolis All Stars), and civic volunteers, and included an "Adopt a Community" round of citations for neighborhood partners and service groups (SEG 312-780).
Fire Chief Doug Romallie, acting city manager for a short period, spoke to the mayor’s leadership and listed achievements including parks and infrastructure projects. Community recipients described program outcomes: the Community Action Agency’s energy-assistance numbers were discussed (segmented figures reported during the citation presentation) and OIC and youth-service groups described participants served and program scope.
Several recipients offered brief remarks of thanks; council members and staff joined in recognizing departing colleagues during the meeting’s "good of the order" segment (SEG 3400-3641).
Quote: "Being mayor of Annapolis has been the honor of a lifetime," Buckley said in his final remarks.
Ending: The meeting closed after final votes and extended acknowledgements; council members and community leaders urged continued civic engagement and oversight of adopted actions.
