Arkansas City accepts low bid for community-funded pickleball court project

Arkansas City commissioners voted to accept the low bid from Multi Sports LLC to design and build a city pickleball court project, approving a contract not to exceed $235,500.
City staff told the commission they received three proposals and recommended Multi Sports as the lowest responsive bidder. "We received 3 proposals back ... Multisports is the one that we're gonna recommend we go with," a staff presenter said, adding the recommended bid includes full lighting installation and removal and replacement of the existing slab. The presenter cautioned the project could drop an optional spectator viewing stand priced at $12,000 if local fundraising falls short.
Funding for the project, staff said, includes a Land and Water Conservation Fund grant and local matching funds being raised through the Legacy Foundation; staff estimated the local group was about $5,000 shy of its goal. "We do have the grant," the presenter said, later noting paperwork requirements for use of American-made materials because federal funds are involved.
Commissioners moved, seconded and approved the resolution by voice vote.
The commission did not record a roll-call tally for the motion in the transcript; the resolution was adopted and staff indicated they will finalize an agreement with the contractor once full funding is confirmed and scheduling is set.
