Dickinson police report Q3: 510 arrests, several felony cases and an ATV fatality

Deputy Chief Hansen delivered the Dickinson Police Department’s quarterly report for July through September, describing a historically busy quarter for dispatch and patrol and summarizing arrests, investigations and program activity.

Hansen reported 510 total arrests in the period, a modest increase from earlier quarters. He highlighted a single-vehicle ATV fatality on the Sunday of Labor Day weekend and said the investigations unit handled a cluster of felony-level cases in September connected to an investigation in Carroll’s Trailer Park; that operation produced numerous search warrants and 17 digital-forensics examinations tied to the cases. Hansen said the weeklong effort produced seven successful arrests tied to the investigation.

Traffic stops were up over the year, and of 11 injury accidents referenced, six resulted in arrests for offenses including DUI, reckless driving or hit-and-run allegations. Hansen also noted one severe residential accident in the northwest part of town involving a high-speed red Corvette where authorities were fortunate there were not more serious injuries.

Hansen reviewed community-facing programs including training for school-resource officers (SROs), hosting the North Dakota Peace Officers Association conference and launching a ‘safe exchange zone’ at the police building for online transactions and custody exchanges. He also reported that animal-control accepted surrendered kittens and that one animal was euthanized after a vet diagnosed an expensive-to-treat rare disease.

Commissioners congratulated staff on community events (National Night Out) and the department’s handling of recent security details. No public comments were offered on the report.
