Council honors youth teams and library director at Oct. 27 meeting

The Cranston City Council presented citations to the Cranston West girls softball team, Cranston East boys volleyball and library director Edward Garcia (recipient of the 2025 Page Turner Award) during the Oct. 27 regular meeting.
The Cranston City Council used the Oct. 27 regular meeting to present several citations recognizing local accomplishments.
Councilwoman Graziano introduced a citation for the Cranston West Little League 11–12 girls softball team after the team won the Rhode Island state tournament and earned the right to compete in Bristol, Conn. “These athletes have already learned resilience,” Graziano said, noting volunteers and coaches who support youth sports.
Councilman Bonanno presented a citation to Cranston High School East boys volleyball for winning the school’s first-ever state championship on June 8, 2025, praising players and coaches during the school’s centennial year.
The council also recognized Edward (Ed) Garcia, director of the Cranston Public Library, for receiving the Rhode Island Center for the Book’s 2025 Page Turner Award. Speakers noted Garcia’s leadership since 2012 and statewide contributions to library services.
These recognitions were adopted by unanimous voice or roll-call votes and were entered into the meeting record.
