The Cranston City Council approved a letter of engagement with Michael Marcello, Esq., of Lewis, Bruce, Post, Discard & Smith, LLP to serve as the council’s attorney and litigation counsel through Jan. 4, 2027. A council member who spoke in support said the engagement closely mirrors the prior letter of engagement used when Marcello served as counsel and added, “I’m very pleased to welcome him aboard.” The council recorded a unanimous voice/roll-call approval on the motion.
The engagement was presented to the council as a professional-services letter of engagement; no amendment to the city budget was reported at the time of the vote. The council did not record a separate fiscal note on the floor during the meeting. The matter had been discussed at a prior appointment session the week before, and council members indicated the item matched the terms the body had previously accepted.
Next steps: the contract will govern council legal services through the stated term unless altered by later council action.
