Council approves routine items: disc golf event, surplus bicycles, KPP delegates and ad hoc committees

At its Oct. 20 meeting the Augusta City Council approved a batch of routine consent and administrative items.
The council approved a request from visitor Philip Campa to hold an "awkward fall final" disc golf tournament at Santa Fe Lake on Nov. 23, 2025; staff said insurance and event paperwork were expected and recommended approval. The council also declared a list of unclaimed bicycles as surplus and approved a change in the retention timeline so the Department of Public Safety (DPS) will dispose of unclaimed bicycles after three months to reduce storage pressure.
On utilities, the council appointed Director of Public Utilities Tim Johnson as the city's voting delegate to the Kansas Power Pool annual meeting and named Electric Production Superintendent Mark Kane as the alternate. Council also appointed three-member ad hoc committees to review special alcohol grants (Sean Davis, Eric Burke and Bob Bailey) and utility-abatement applications (Jeff Brown, Kip Richardson and Jake Mar); staff said those committees will meet and recommend approvals in late November or December.
During 'matters from council' members discussed plans to pilot permitted food-truck spots on State Street (near Red Bud Brewing and Park Bench/Branch Brewing) on a temporary basis to assess impacts before proposing code changes or a formal permitting process.
