K–3 students at Mohan (Yorktown Central School District) presented a new story walk and demonstrated digital storytelling tools, thanking PTA donors and school staff; the board invited the community to visit the outdoor story walk installation.
Mohanzek and Mohan’s K–3 students presented a “story walk” and showcased classroom storytelling projects at the Yorktown Central School District board meeting on Dec. 1.
“The story walk is a great idea,” said Christine Roper, who introduced the installation and identified herself as the librarian at Mohanzek. Students read aloud, explained elements of stories and authorship, and described classroom activities tied to author Peter H. Reynolds.
Students also demonstrated apps used in class. “We used an app called Quiver. It turns a colored dot into a 3‑D thing,” one student said, and another described Chatterpix as a tool to “make [a picture] talk” to practice speaking and storytelling. Third‑grader James Hamlin summarized the story‑walk experience: “A story walk is while you read while you walk,” and invited visitors to walk the path at Mohan’s campus.
Board members and parents applauded the presentations. PTA members and staff were thanked for funding books and the story‑walk installation; the board encouraged community members to visit the display on campus.
