Forest Park police reported that overall crime is 12.8% lower than the previous year and urged residents to take precautions, including removing valuables from vehicles, locking doors and windows, parking in well-lit areas, and using visible deterrents.
"We're 12.8% below last year," Captain Skeleton said during the meeting, then outlined three conditions that enable theft: a motivated offender, a suitable target and absence of a capable guardian. "Remove all of your valuables. The golden rule is leave nothing visible," he said, recommending trunk storage (with caution), steering-wheel locks, aftermarket alarms and dash cams with motion detection and night vision.
The department also announced a community Boo Fest for Halloween. "We have Boo Fest coming up, on Halloween 10/31. It's from 4 to 8 at the PD parking lot," Captain Skeleton said.
The transcript included no formal policy changes or budget motions tied to public safety; the remarks were advisory and promotional for the department event.
