Charter Review Commission recommends five-year review cycle; council receives report

The El Campo Charter Review Commission presented its 2025 report recommending that voters consider changing the municipal charter review schedule from every odd year to once every five years.
Staff explained that a five-year review is common among peer cities and that the change would not prevent council or citizens from proposing charter amendments at other times. The commission’s letter, signed by Chair Amy Rod, was included in the council packet. Staff also thanked Kaylee Kudella for her work supporting the commission.
The council received the report; no action was required. Commissioners and staff emphasized that council retains the ability to place amendments on the ballot in the interim through council action or citizen petition.
