Resident praises East Ridge first responders after Germantown Gardens apartment fire; chief reports no injuries

A resident, Bob Gilreath, publicly thanked East Ridge firefighters and police during the Oct. 23 council meeting for their response to an early‑morning fire at Germantown Gardens apartments.
Chief Williams (fire) told council the fire began before dawn, quickly involved roof/attic spaces and required a second alarm and mutual‑aid assistance from Chattanooga, Catoosa County, Rossville and others. He said all residents were evacuated and there were no reported injuries to residents or responders; many occupants were displaced and several pets remain missing while animal services is coordinating reunification efforts.
Councilmembers commended first responders and asked questions about mutual aid and sheltering. Chief Williams said the building had about 20 occupied apartments and that the priorities were life safety and reunification for displaced residents and pets.
