Commission keeps 201 East Street inspection open, pushes final review to Dec. 10

The Housing Commission of East Ridge voted to move final consideration of code compliance at 201 East Street to its Dec. 10 meeting after staff and the property representative reported progress on fire and sprinkler systems but identified remaining items.

A contractor or property representative who said they had driven in from Nashville presented the job summary of the annual fire alarm inspection and described work to the sprinkler system: replaced sprinkler heads, painted and locked the riser room door, and installed a missing part to the hydrant. Staff and the inspector confirmed emergency lights and smoke-alarm batteries were checked and replaced as needed.

Staff recommended keeping the file open for one more month to allow completion of non-life-safety items staff listed, including cleaning bird netting from exterior sprinklers if required, trimming around hydrants, repairing dryer-vent screens that could present a fire hazard, replacing missing AC locking caps, and clearing stored items from under stair egress in some units.

In discussion, staff said they would reinspect the property and that a property representative did not need to appear at the December check if staff could verify completion during an on-site inspection. A motion to move the case to the Dec. 10 meeting for potential closure was made, seconded and approved; commissioners present voted yes.

The commission did not close the case at this meeting. Staff will recheck the list of remaining items and report back at the Dec. 10 meeting for a final determination.
