Durant — The Durant City Council voted unanimously to approve amendments to the City of Durant employee handbook revising section 2.01 (equal opportunity) and section 2.02 (nondiscrimination).
Pam (city staff) said the revisions reflect guidance from OMAG and that Amber Gooch, an attorney with OMAG, reviewed and proposed the updated language. "The OMAG attorney did suggest that we do it this way," Pam said, noting the changes largely eliminate Appendix B and fold its language into the main handbook text.
A council member asked the city attorney for comment; the attorney said he had worked with Amber Gooch on other matters and expressed confidence that the proposed wording will help the city comply with applicable executive guidance and legal requirements.
A motion to approve the handbook amendments passed on a roll-call vote with Council members Miller and Shear, Vice Mayor Similescu and Mayor Tucker recorded as voting yes.
The meeting record does not specify an effective date for the amended handbook language; staff said OMAG will provide EEO training going forward. The council adjourned after approving the two agenda items.
