Summary
The Community Appearance Board accepted Quattlebaum award selections across multiple categories, recognizing Mercy Baptist Church, residential projects in Wild Wing Plantation, Palmetto Taps, Collins Waltz subdivision signage and Oak Tree Farm (SOS Healthcare). The board adopted all award selections in a single motion.
The Conway Community Appearance Board on Monday voted to grant its annual Quattlebaum awards to a slate of local projects across restoration, new construction and signage categories.
Miss Dennis explained the awards recognize design, restoration and landscape projects in the city. For outstanding restoration of a nonresidential building, staff presented two nominees: Mercy Baptist Church (2805 Fourth Avenue) and Stella's Homemade Ice Cream (1101 4th Avenue); board discussion favored Mercy Baptist for that category. For new residential construction the board agreed to recognize both 1215 Grebe Court and 1109 Whooping Crane in Wild Wing Plantation. The single nominee in the outstanding contribution category was Oak Tree Farm (by SOS Healthcare), which provides housing and a life-skills center for adults with autism and intellectual disabilities; staff noted four of seven planned buildings had received certificates of occupancy.
Other nominees included Petco at 2918 Church Street (new nonresidential construction) and signage projects at Palmetto Taps (909 4th Avenue) and a Collins Waltz subdivision sign (1102 Blueback Herring Way). Board members discussed design merits, compliance with previous approvals, and whether to withhold awards when projects did not meet subjective criteria; ultimately Speaker 2 moved to accept all previously discussed selections in a single motion and the board voted unanimously to grant the awards.
Board members thanked staff (Katie was singled out) for organizing the nominations. The awards were then recorded as granted in the meeting.
