City staff report: school crosswalk moved, nuisance abatement completed and fall events scheduled

City staff reported moving a school crosswalk to Harrison Street SE to improve sight lines for crossing guards, completed a nuisance abatement at 111 Polk Street (invoice to property owner), and reminded the council of upcoming Halloween events and citywide cleanup.
At the Oct. 13 Cascade City Council meeting, staff provided several routine city updates.
Public works and school-safety staff said they relocated a school crosswalk to the Harrison Street SE intersection to improve shade and sight lines for crossing guards; crossing guards reported the change improved visibility at peak times. Staff are also evaluating temporary speed-limit adjustments in the school zone during times when children are present.
Staff reported a nuisance abatement was completed at 111 Polk Street and the invoice has been sent to the property owner; the owner has until the end of the month to pay or the cost will be assessed to property taxes. Staff noted other longstanding nuisance properties (including one on Buchanan Street) and said they would address those in follow-up.
Staff also reminded the council of community events including trick-or-treating, a Halloween parade and the firemen's dance, and described logistics for citywide cleanup and allowable large-item collections.
