The Scott County School District 2 Board of Trustees ratified a collective bargaining agreement on the night’s agenda that district leaders said will boost teacher pay by reallocating personnel savings.
Superintendent Dr. Nycomb told the board the district generated “approximately $630,000 in savings through the realignment of certified staff, approximately $200,000 in savings through the realignment of non certified staff” and described “a combined total of $1,070,000 in savings that we generated back into our teachers' salaries for this collective bargaining cycle.” He said the district set its lowest base salary at $45,000 and increased step amounts from $1,200 to $1,500 to make the district more competitive in hiring and retaining teachers.
The board moved to ratify the agreement that night and approved the motion by voice vote. Administration said the ratification is the board’s step of approval and the business office will complete implementation tasks. District staff described a target of the November 20 payroll for the first payment under the new scale but explicitly said that date is a goal and not yet confirmed; they also said December 1 was another possible date.
Board members praised the bargaining outcome. Dr. Nycomb credited work across the district, saying leaders and the CTA, along with the district director Stacy Kirk, had been part of the process. He described realignment of positions and other cost-saving measures taken over the prior 12 months that made the salary increases possible.
The board did not provide a detailed, itemized payroll schedule at the meeting; administration said logistics and official effective dates will be confirmed after business-office updates.
The ratification concludes the board’s formal action on the bargaining package; implementation tasks remain and the business office will report the finalized payroll timing once the submission and processing are complete.
