Forest Park updates: new Main Street manager, WIC program acceptance and September financial report

Mayor Angeline Butler announced that Charice Clay was promoted to Main Street manager, effective Oct. 13, and said the administration expects to fill an open staff assistant position before year’s end. The mayor highlighted community events — Hottoberfest at the fountain (with a pet costume contest and arts vendors), the second annual Blues on Main and a new Main Street sign installed with help from Public Works.
The city’s economic development lead said Forest Park had been selected for the Georgia Initiative for Community Housing and that the city will take part in a county housing assessment. "We have been accepted into the Georgia Initiative for Community Housing," the presenter said, noting the program will support a housing inventory and a strategic plan.
On finance, the presenter walked the board through the September operating report and supporting bank statements. The cover sheet listed operating cash across three bank accounts at $2,646,006.46; deposits and withdrawals were described and an ending balance was presented as approximately $5,000,005.88. Year-to-date operating revenue was reported at $3,278,003.68 and year-to-date operating expenses at about $59,829. The presenter said the packet includes bank statements and a Georgia Fund 1 statement showing a beginning balance of $2,121,001.14 and a new balance of $2,128,005.70.
Board members noted the financial packet had not been included in the meeting packet they received and the presenter agreed to email the statements to the board. The mayor and staff also recounted a groundbreaking that morning for Canal properties at Gillum and said the Gillum developer may return in November to request a tax incentive.
The meeting moved from these updates into a substantive discussion of the Gillum tax-incentive request later in the agenda.
