The Florence City Council approved second reading of Ordinance O-22-20-25 to change a concept development plan for an approximately 3.8-acre site at 8540 US 42, at the northeast corner of US 42 and Hopeful Church, to allow demolition of an existing gas station, convenience store and restaurant and the construction of a 6,372-square-foot convenience store with gasoline pumps. The ordinance passed on a roll-call vote, 4–2.
Presiding Official introduced the ordinance and noted the full text was available for public inspection at the city clerk’s office. Todd, the staff presenter, described the proposal as "for the construction of a Wawa station" that would replace the existing uses and said the planning and zoning committee had returned the item with "several new conditions" it wanted imposed.
Todd said the committee’s conditions included upgrades to lighting, changes to building façade and alterations to ingress and egress within the property. He also told the council an "extensive traffic study" had been submitted to the State of Kentucky and that "the state did approve the entrances and exits and the traffic study as submitted." Those conditions and the state approval were cited in the discussion before the vote.
On the roll call Miss Wingo voted yes; Miss Chambers voted no; Mister Winn voted yes; Miss Whelan voted yes; Mister Snyder voted yes; Miss Cable voted no, producing a 4–2 outcome in favor of the ordinance.
The council’s action authorizes the change of concept development plan in the Commercial 2 P-D zone for the parcel identified in the ordinance. The city clerk’s office holds the ordinance text and exhibits for public review. The council did not set additional conditions on timing or building permits during the meeting; permit and compliance steps were not specified at the time of the vote.
