Mike, a resident speaking during the public-comment period, urged the Gatlinburg Board of Mayor and Aldermen to consider purchasing three rectangular lots owned by Carol Musick to extend the Gatlinburg Greenway from Pine Drive to the intersection of Bruce Street and Glades Road. He said Musick’s asking price for the combined parcel is $75,000 and that she would not lease or donate the land.
Mike said the extension would create more than a half-mile of greenway, allowing a round-trip walk of over a mile, and argued the addition would benefit overnight rental guests and nearby residents. He said he believes surrounding property values could rise by 10%–17% if the city acts and that other adjacent owners were not interested in selling. He also suggested pursuing a crosswalk grant to improve pedestrian safety at Pine Drive.
The comment was made during the public-comment segment and no formal motion or staff action on the matter was recorded during the meeting. The board did not take action on acquisition at this meeting; staff and commissioners may pursue follow-up if they choose to investigate purchase, negotiation, or grant options.
