Council clears Ewald PTO fall festival closure and approves 2026 Rod Trowbridge Fly Inn

Ewald Elementary PTO: Staff reported that the Ewald PTO submitted an event request for a fall festival on Nov. 1 that would require temporary closure of Greyhound Drive for movement between softball fields and Belmont. Staff said the Department of Public Safety and county Emergency Management reviewed the request and raised no objections, and that the event should be covered under the school district’s insurance. Council moved, seconded and approved the requested barricades and closure (SEG 056–087).
Rod Trowbridge Memorial Fly Inn: The council also considered the Rod Trowbridge Memorial Fly Inn at the Augusta Airport. Airport organizer Randy described coordination with the FAA, community outreach, Young Eagles flights (53 children flown last year), security planning including overnight security for RVs and tenting, and the challenge of scheduling around other community events; the event was approved for May 2026 at the airport after a motion and voice vote (SEG 168–206, 333–341). Staff emphasized that FAA approval and other permits remain required and that fireworks remain unfinalized pending approvals and sponsorships (SEG 272–283).
