The council approved awarding a repair contract for storm damage to two stairwells (Project 2026004) to Bin Construction after the project team reviewed three bids.
Staff explained the work was needed because of damage sustained during Hurricane Helene, including bowed glass, water intrusion down walls, damaged seals, and some warped stairwell flooring that requires refinishing. Project staff said the city will submit the repair costs to insurance first and pursue any unreimbursed amounts with FEMA. Council members questioned differences among bidders and confirmed references and scaffolding access had been considered in evaluating bids.
After discussion, the council approved the project-team recommendation and the award to Bin Construction by roll-call vote (seven 'Yes' votes recorded). Staff asked that members stay available for project follow-up after the meeting.
