Museum board members and residents spoke during the meeting. A museum representative told council the museum has welcomed over 53,000 visitors since opening in February 2024, holds more than 2,500 memberships and regularly hosts field trips and community events. Residents asked about the proposed five‑year lease term and the lease’s rental cap (about $3,900 plus utilities); council members said the city’s arrangement is intended as a quality‑of‑life amenity and that the rent is below market for comparable commercial space.
Council moved, seconded and approved the resolution by voice vote. Staff said the city provided an initial year of free rent during the museum build‑out and expects museum fundraising and grant activity to continue supporting operations.
Next steps: staff will finalize the lease agreement and continue partnership work with the museum board.
