The Victorian Village Commission on Tuesday advanced a slate of neighborhood preservation and improvement items, approving several Certificates of Appropriateness (COAs) with conditions, tabling or continuing others, and recommending a public‑art installation for Goodale Park.
Key approvals included COA 2500648 enabling 10 solar panels on a garage at 1193 Hunter Avenue, approved with a condition that no work occur on the main residence roof. The commission also approved COA 2500528 (428‑432 Buttles Avenue) for landscaping and gates, requiring wrought‑iron gates, a buff‑wash finish for new concrete, 90‑degree curbing returns at stairs and submission of material specifications to staff. Two garage‑related applications were approved: COA 250117551 for a carriage house at 51 West Star Avenue with required final materials and site plan clarifications, and COA 25011772 for demolition and replacement of a deteriorated contributing garage at 35 Buttles Avenue based on a structural engineer’s report; that approval included conditions on siding reveal and venting details.
Signage for 25 North High Street (COA 2501162625) was approved contingent on revised drawings showing mortar‑joint anchors, appropriate bracket details and correct right‑of‑way distances. The commission also recommended COA 2501173 for four public‑art sculptures at 120 West Goodale Street, contingent on Recreation & Parks review and final pad/footer drawings.
Items continued for additional work or clarification included COA 2500778 (28 Buttles Avenue rooftop patio), which staff asked be checked with building and zoning for hatch options, and COA 2501147 (235 West First Avenue), where commissioners requested contractor estimates and more evidence to support any wholesale window replacement. An outstanding application for 56 West Star Avenue (COA 2400402) was tabled for lack of applicant follow‑up and referred back to code enforcement.
Staff will issue COA paperwork with the conditions adopted by the commission and follow up on items continued or tabled.
