Planning commission accepts withdrawal, continues several items and releases a $3,000 bond

At its regular meeting, the Cranston Planning Commission handled multiple procedural items and several routine votes:
- Minutes: the commission approved the minutes of Aug. 26, 2025 (motion by Director Carrera, seconded by Commissioner Exeter) and Sept. 2, 2025 (motion by Commissioner Mancini, seconded by Director Carrero).
- Vaughn Lane: on a motion by Vice President Coop, seconded by Commissioner Mazzulli, the commission accepted the applicant’s written withdrawal; the public and abutter counsel confirmed the withdrawal means any future filing will be a new application, not a continuance.
- Continued items: the commission continued 235 Beckwith Street and 102 Old Oak Avenue to Nov. 4 to allow the applicants to obtain necessary documentation and complete abutter notice requirements (motions passed by voice vote).
- Zoning recommendations: the commission accepted staff’s positive recommendations on Frenchtown Capital Partners (175 Oakland Ave) and Force Realty/Amy Fairs (74 Rob Square parking variance). Motions were carried by voice votes after staff presentations.
- Bond release: finance staff recommended releasing a $3,000 bond related to construction on Broad Street and Norwood Avenue (a CVS site from 2011); Director Guerrero moved to release the bond, seconded by Commissioner Lanphier, and the motion passed.
No contested final approvals were taken for the comprehensive plan; the public hearing on comp plan amendments and the housing element was continued to Nov. 4 to allow staff to provide revised materials and exhibit overlays.
