Public works director: Badlung Pool construction advancing; gutters, backfill and interior coatings next

Frank Correo, Cranston's director of public works, told the Public Works Committee on Nov. 6 that construction at Badlung Pool is progressing: gunite walls and floors are installed and form removal should be completed the following day. Correo said crews will backfill around the pool and install stainless steel gutters scheduled to start Nov. 17.
Interior work on the pool house is in the final coat stage, with contractors scheduled to apply final lower‑level coatings next week. Correo said the project will enter a winter shutdown once gutters and backfill are complete and the department expects to resume construction in March or April to meet a target opening in July.
On the splash pad, Correo said pricing is premature and bidding is likely after the new year, with an expected construction window in March–April and an opening concurrent with the pool in July. He confirmed the splash pad will not use recirculated water and explained the public‑health and maintenance reasons for selecting non‑recirculating fresh water.
Committee members asked for clarification on timing and the director confirmed the department expects to advertise the splash pad project in January and award contracts so installation can start in the spring. No project‑level issues were raised that would delay the timeline as reported.
