JOSHUA, Texas — The Joshua City Heritage Preservation Overlay District Commission on Oct. 6 approved a conditional use permit to allow an indoor family arcade, Ducky's Revenge, to operate at 107 North Main Suite A, a 0.293-acre parcel in the city's heritage overlay district.
Aaron, a meeting presenter, told commissioners the conditional use permit process allows uses that otherwise would be inappropriate without restrictions, and noted the application packet included development standards, site, floor and elevation plans and an arcade concept. He also said the property is located within the Heritage Overlay District and that the owner was present to answer questions.
Douglas Hampton, who identified himself as one of the owners of Ducky's Revenge, described the business as a family-focused arcade mixing 1980s and 1990s nostalgia with newer collaborative games. "We're really into pinball," Hampton said, adding that the venue would host tournaments and seek designation as a "Stern" location for competitive pinball events. He said the business intends to serve concession-style food and sell beer and wine but not operate a full liquor bar.
Hampton described operational details: the arcade would share a grease trap with the adjoining Brick House restaurant, use a rear area for kitchen equipment, and include a partitioned party room for private rentals and equipment storage. He emphasized wanting to offer a more affordable family birthday option and said some nights would be oriented toward adults while others would be family-focused.
After brief questions and supportive comments from members, the commission's presiding officer moved to approve the permit and a member seconded.
