Commissioners review nonexclusive franchise agreement for IdeaTek fiber trial

Counsel recommended minor edits and said staff could incorporate those changes and return the contract for approval.
Speakers noted the agreement is nonexclusive and that the city would have limited ability to prohibit providers from operating in the right-of-way; commissioners discussed the permit fee and the practical value of adding clearer repair/notice language. One commissioner suggested authorizing staff to proceed subject to legal review and the attorney’s ability to make nonsubstantive corrections.
