Commission confirms multiple board appointments and takes post-executive-session actions on cannery project and county appraisal-board election

The commission approved multiple appointments and reappointments across boards and committees at the Nov. 18 meeting, including positions on the Building & Standards Commission/Board of Adjustment, Historic Preservation Committee, Airport Board, Transit Advisory Committee, Brownsville Border Film Commission, Brownsville Convention & Visitors Bureau, Library Advisory Board, Animal Regulation & Care Advisory Committee and Brownsville Beautification Committee. Motions were made and carried during the action-item portion of the agenda; a number of nominees were named on the record and their appointments were approved.

The commission entered executive session at about 7:04 p.m. to discuss several items including a city manager selection process, the cannery project (Sames Inc.), solid-waste services, Cameron County appraisal-district matters and federal/state grants. After returning to open session at about 9:37 p.m., the body moved "to proceed as discussed" on the cannery project; the motion carried. Commissioners also approved a resolution electing Commissioner Gustavo de Leon to the Cameron County appraisal board (resolution number recorded in the minutes), and no action was taken on appointing a city manager at this meeting.
