The Kuna Planning and Zoning Commission approved an amendment to the downtown design standards Tuesday that removes painted-roof choices and consolidates exterior color palettes.
Planner Marina Lundy explained the proposed changes were intended to remove outdated roof-color options and simplify the manual. She said the city obtained current color information from Sherwin-Williams and “after speaking to them… they no longer offer most painted roof options,” so the proposed amendment removes painted roofs from the approved palette.
Commissioners described the amendment as a simplification that increases clarity and design flexibility and approved it by voice vote. The item was acted on as a design-review decision by the commission and does not require a separate City Council recommendation in this presentation.
The design standards amendment will be implemented by Development Services and applied to downtown design reviews; staff said updated palette pages replace prior tiered color categories and that questions about specific trim/roof materials will continue to be resolved at the time of design review and permit application.
