Kuna commission recommends zoning change to clarify pole-sign rules along Meridian Road

The Kuna Planning and Zoning Commission on Oct. 28 recommended approval of a zoning text amendment that revises the municipal sign code for 'poll' (pole/pylon) signs.
Doug Hansen, the city’s planning and zoning director, explained staff’s proposal would limit pole signs to the north–south State Highway 69/Meridian Road corridor and clarify that a single standard applies to those signs rather than splitting sign standards at the previous 30-foot threshold. Hansen said construction of poll signs would require special-use permits and be limited to certain commercial and corridor locations.
Commissioners had no public testimony on the item; staff opened and immediately closed the public record. One commissioner asked for assurance that small temporary ground signs remain categorized as temporary rather than permanent poll signs; Hansen confirmed those smaller signs are considered pylon or temporary banner signs under the code.
A motion to recommend approval of case 25-520A with the staff conditions was seconded and passed, and the recommendation will be forwarded to the Kuna City Council for final action.
