Kingsburg BID discusses district improvements, trolley logistics and holiday event planning

Chair Carpenter said the board would step back from a previously discussed shield project after learning a plan already existed elsewhere and suggested partnering with community groups on new projects instead. Members discussed using remaining capital funds for visible downtown improvements similar to last year’s trash‑can investment.
The board revisited a trolley digital sign that displays slide‑in messages. Members clarified that the sign had been purchased and that a sponsor could underwrite event messages; mounting limitations were noted because the BID does not own the trolley. The group also learned the trolley operates a single directional route and drivers do not routinely make U‑turns, which affects where stops can be placed.
Holiday logistics took up significant discussion: the chair said Public Works had mapped tree locations and Kingsburg Media Foundation will install electrical boxes at four corners. The board proposed a volunteer workday to install and light trees on Sunday, Dec. 16, with a 10 a.m. start, and discussed decorating duties, ribbon and bow preparation and volunteer assignments.
Board members also discussed running the trolley on Saturdays during the season and placing Santa on board for select dates. One member noted the trolley rental rate is modest: “$6 an hour,” a cost the board said it could absorb for seasonal runs. Members flagged the need to coordinate scheduling with chamber activities and to finalize whether certain route stops (for example, the mall) are feasible given the trolley’s route.
No formal capital commitments were made Nov. 4; the board directed staff and committee members to confirm routing, permitting, volunteer assignments and Santa availability and to return with cost estimates if funding is needed.
