Kingsburg commission hears Parks Master Plan progress; Fresno State to draft plan after 600+ survey responses

Adam, a Parks & Recreation staff member, told the Kingsburg Community Services Commission that the city’s parks master plan update process is underway after a public workshop and a summer survey.
"We had over 600 responses for those surveys," Adam said, and he added that Fresno State students and Dr. Brandon Taylor will combine workshop feedback and survey data to prepare a draft plan. The consultant team and staff intend to present a preliminary draft to the commission and then forward a final recommendation to the city council.
The current master plan was completed in 2002, Adam said, and the update is taking longer than initially expected because of the volume of public input. Staff hoped to have a draft ready for a commission meeting in November but said the schedule could slip to December if additional time is needed to analyze responses.
Commissioners who attended the workshop described good turnout and emphasized the value of the community feedback. Adam said staff may circulate preliminary drafts to the public for review before presenting to council; consultants do not expect a second full workshop but staff could host additional outreach if needed.
Next steps reported to the commission are completion of the consultant draft, internal staff review and a subsequent commission review before council consideration.
