Director Horton described the parcel as just under 10 acres and noted it appears to lie in a floodway rather than a floodplain but said the proposed acquisition aligns with the city’s future land use plan and a potential trail alignment for the DFW Velo network that would link Kennedale to broader regional trails. "For every 10 acres, you can generate about 1 mile of a trail system," Director Horton said; the parcel is just under 10 acres so it could yield roughly a mile of trail if developed for that purpose.
Council clarified that the purchase would be executed through the Economic Development Corporation; Council approved the motion unanimously (4–0). Staff indicated the city’s future land use exhibit showing a potential trail across the parcel is attached to the public packet and that further planning and design would occur before any trail construction.
Next steps: the EDC will proceed with the acquisition per the council’s direction and staff will return to council with implementation details as required.
