Hayden Council endorses county draft ordinance, sells surplus vehicle and names 2025 Distinguished Veteran

Hayden City — In other business at its Oct. 14 meeting, the Hayden City Council approved a set of routine and intergovernmental actions.

Kootenai County area-of-impact: Council reviewed a county-drafted ordinance for the proposed area of impact and displayed a simplified map for the public. A staff member noted the city previously approved sending the proposed area of impact to the county; council voted to indicate it is "okay with" the county's draft ordinance language prior to the county's public hearing. Staff reminded the public that the city cannot force annexation and that annexation rules are largely landowner-driven under current state law.

Surplus vehicle sale: Council approved selling surplus vehicle number 75 (a 2008 Ford F-250) to Coraline Auto for $2,000 after the vehicle failed to sell at auction; the statute allows the city to accept a reasonable offer following an unsuccessful auction.

Distinguished Veteran: The Veterans Commission recommended Ross Wilburn as the 2025 Distinguished Veteran; council approved the recommendation by roll call.
