LDC forms ad hoc committee to budget 36 Market project with Cornell Cooperative Extension talks ongoing

Glens Falls — After IDA business on Nov. 13, the Glens Falls Local Development Corporation convened and moved forward on the proposed 36 Market project, a multi-component plan that would include rentable commercial kitchens, a market area and wayfinding/marketing for local vendors.
Staff and board members reported a recent trip to review Taste New York market models and commercial kitchens; they said Cornell Cooperative Extension (Warren County) expressed interest in operating the kitchens and market and that the LDC has signed a 10-year lease on the facility at about $70,000 per year. "I think by the end of the week if Cornell Cooperative Extension Warren County is is interested in entering into a negotiation with us to run the commercial kitchen and the kitchens and the market," staff said, signalling ongoing negotiations.
The LDC set goals for the market to break even within three years and asked for an ad hoc committee to develop a detailed budget and contract recommendations. Volunteers for the committee include Judy Caligero, Denise (surname not specified) and Mary, working with accountant Mark Toomey. The board asked the committee to return numbers and draft contracts at the December meeting and targeted opening the facility in the first quarter of 2026 if timeline and contracts permit.
Board members stressed the market’s role as an incubator for local food businesses and farmers, and staff said Taste New York and Cornell Cooperative Extension could provide operational expertise and vendor connections. The motion to create the ad hoc committee passed unanimously at the LDC meeting.
