Georgetown honors firefighters with promotions and life‑saving award

Chief Johnson announced a recruit class of 10 new hires and then introduced Assistant Chief Anne Willett and Assistant Chief Cam Johnson for pinning and recognition of service. He described Willett’s 20-year career in the department and Johnson’s 13 years of service and prior military service.
Chief Johnson described a Sept. 13 rescue where crews lifted an approximately 12,000‑pound gear to extricate a trapped worker; the rescue, accomplished within roughly 10 minutes of arrival, resulted in one surviving patient transported to UK Hospital and one deceased individual at the scene. The chief credited quick thinking, teamwork and specialized equipment and named the firefighters being honored: Battalion Chief Chris Logan, Captain Chris Morrison, Captain Cam Collins, Engineer Corey Ford, Firefighter Dan Griggs, Firefighter Caleb McDonald, Firefighter Will Frazier, and acknowledged firefighter Austin Abshire (unable to attend).
Mayor Jenkins and council members praised the department’s performance and noted ongoing recruitment and training partnerships with local schools and BCTC. The life‑saving award and promotions were presented without formal council action required.
