Council approved an emergency funding resolution to support local food banks after reports that SNAP benefits could be affected by a federal government shutdown.
A council member moved to amend the originally proposed $60,000 allocation, saying, "I'll move to amend the resolution to increase the total amount from 60,000 to 65,000 and to allocate 15,000 to the following 4 local organizations, Florence Manor House, Harvest Hope Food Bank, Senior Citizen Association, and My Brother's Keeper." The amendment also left $5,000 for the city manager to distribute to other organizations directly affected by the shutdown and allowed the city manager to suspend or reallocate funds if the federal shutdown ended.
The council voted to adopt the amendment and, after affirming the amendment, voted to approve the resolution as amended. The motion was recorded as passed by aye votes. The resolution names the four recipient organizations and authorizes the city manager to implement the distribution plan and adjust allocations if the federal situation changes.
