Florence council honors veterans, local sculptor, pastor and state-champion Wilson band
Summary
Council recognized local veterans, presented resolutions honoring sculptor Alex Pokovich and Pastor Bill Monroe and congratulated the Wilson High School Marching Tiger Pride Band on a state championship; Youth City University graduates were also acknowledged.
The Florence City Council used part of its meeting for ceremonial recognitions and community celebrations.
Council recognized veterans during an invocation and the Pledge of Allegiance was led by Master Sergeant Reggie German. The council adopted a resolution honoring sculptor Alex Pokovich for public works including pieces at Florence Veterans Park; Pokovich accepted the recognition and thanked the community.
Council also approved a resolution recognizing Pastor Bill Monroe for 56 years of ministry and his role founding Florence Baptist Temple and Florence Christian School. The Wilson High School Marching Tiger Pride Band received a resolution congratulating them as the 2025 SCBDA 3A/4A traditional high-step state champions; band leadership and a student speaker thanked the council.
Separately, the council celebrated graduates of the Fall 2025 Youth City University and called out broad community participation across schools.
