The Lewiston City Council on Oct. 13 approved Resolution 2025-47, authorizing a continued intergovernmental agreement with Nez Perce County for the use of the city’s transfer station for solid-waste disposal.
Public Works Director Dustin Johnson said the arrangement continues a long‑standing operational relationship that had been based on agreements drafted in 2011 and earlier; the current document is structured as a one-year contract with five one-year extensions, carrying the agreement through Sept. 30, 2031 if renewed. City Attorney Jennifer Tangano said the main changes from prior drafts updated the notice and termination provisions.
Councilors asked why the county chose to continue using the city’s transfer facility rather than an alternate county facility; Johnson said details were negotiated between county and city leadership and some logistics made the county decision to continue with Lewiston the practical outcome. The council voted to approve the resolution.
What happens next: The city will continue to accept county loads under the renewed agreement and will implement the updated notice provisions specified in the contract.
