Lawton honors volunteer Mary Fountain and recognizes Detective Marcus Rucker

The City of Lawton on Monday recognized longtime volunteer Mary Fountain as its November citizen of the month and presented Detective Marcus Rucker with the True North Award.
Mayor and council read a proclamation citing Fountain’s decades of community service, including coordinating Memorial Day programs and Wreaths Across America at Fort Sill National Cemetery, serving as secretary of the Comanche County Veterans Council and chairing the Citizens Police Advisory Committee. The proclamation said Fountain was born in Yokohama, Japan, became a U.S. citizen in March 1972, and graduated from Lawton High School in 1972.
Fountain, who joined the mayor at the front of the chambers, said she volunteers “because I feel good whenever I do this,” and thanked the council.
City staff also presented Detective Marcus Rucker, identified as a 15-year LPD veteran and the acting supervisor of the Criminal Investigative Division for crimes against persons, with the True North Award. The presentation noted that over the last four years Rucker has investigated more than 700 cases, including 17 homicides, and that several recent prosecutions produced convictions and life sentences. Rucker thanked nominators and said he serves the community because he “loves the community” and “loves the youth.”
Both recognitions were presented during the council’s opening ceremonial business; no formal vote was required to make the proclamations or presentations.
