Council enacts Community Health and Resiliency Advisory Board charge

On Nov. 4 the Lake Oswego City Council enacted Ordinance 2972, adopting the charge statement for a newly formed Community Health and Resiliency Advisory Board. The board, described by its co-chair as formed from the former '50 plus' board, will broaden its work to include emergency preparedness and community health.
The co-chair read four charge elements for the board: (A) advise the council on strategies to prepare for, withstand and recover from emergencies; (B) provide recommendations to foster community health and well-being through policies, programs and partnerships that respect individual choices while supporting social connectedness and equitable access to resources; (C) advise on approaches to inform and engage residents about emergency management and community health resources; and (D) provide recommendations for city events, policies and programs that strengthen community resiliency, such as preparedness fairs and wellness initiatives.
Councilors praised the committee’s work and noted the advisory role of the board (final implementation decisions remain with council). Councilor Afghan moved to enact Ordinance 2972; the motion passed 6–0.
Councilors suggested collaboration with the Chamber and with Assistant City Manager Milin on outreach and programming. The council asked staff to continue supporting the board as it begins its work and to align the board’s charge with council goals.
