Kingsport’s board approved a resolution authorizing the mayor to apply for and accept a Section 5307 grant from the Federal Transit Administration to fund transit operating and capital needs for FY2025–26.
City staff said the 5307 grant represents roughly $2,000,000 in combined capital and operating support for Kingsport Area Transit; additional state funding through a TDOT UROP grant and other state sources will bring the total available funding closer to $2.8 million. Staff indicated the grant is already included in the current budget.
The board voted unanimously to authorize the mayor to execute all documents necessary and proper to receive the 5307 grant.
The item was approved with the notation that a TDOT reimbursement contract for operating expenses (the UROP grant) of about $794,000 is on the agenda and included in the transit funding plan.
