Conway issues Pancreatic Cancer proclamation, honors coach James Pinckney and discusses renaming a recreation field

At the start of its Nov. 17 meeting, the Conway City Council read a proclamation recognizing Nov. 20, 2025, as Pancreatic Cancer Day and encouraged residents to wear purple and support pancreatic‑cancer research. The proclamation cited national awareness goals and described Project Purple as an advocacy vehicle.
The council also adopted a resolution honoring Coach James Pinckney for more than 30 years of service to Conway Parks and Recreation. The mayor invited Coach Pinckney and his family to the dais; the resolution described his longtime mentorship and contributions to youth athletics. An employee of the month for November 2025 from Public Works was presented and thanked for service.
During the recreation workshop, staff proposed renaming Field 2 at the Sports and Fitness Center in honor of Coach Pinckney. Recreation staff said background checks and vetting are part of the process for naming facilities and that naming opportunities generate sponsorship revenue while allowing continued field rentals. Council members generally expressed support for vetting and proposed conditions such as continuing revenue streams and background checks before final approval.
