Monroe — The City Council approved a land division that breaks 317 West Front Street into three parcels, a step city officials said would clear the path for a possible property purchase tied to the Loop Greenway trail.

Manager Robinson introduced the item as a planning commission‑referred case (LD25‑002) to divide the property. Councilwoman Jermaine moved to approve the land division for Parcel 29‑00404‑033, commonly referred to as 317 West Front Street, with the condition that an executed purchase agreement for Parcel 2 be in place between the City of Monroe and MB Monroe Properties Incorporated.

The motion was seconded and carried on a roll‑call vote with all members present voting yes.

Council members noted the current action was a parcel division only and not a zoning decision; one council member clarified that the rezoning that may follow was not before council at this time. The division clears the administrative step so the city can begin negotiations for the portion proposed for the greenway.

The council’s approval was procedural; additional steps — including final purchase negotiations and any required zoning actions — remain before acquisition or construction of greenway infrastructure could proceed.
