The Lewiston City Council unanimously approved Resolution 2025‑51 on Nov. 10 to accept a $2,000,000 state highway safety grant for Bridal Canyon Road.
Dustin Johnson, public works director, told councilors the project would include a mill and overlay to increase pavement friction, rumble strips, additional warning signs and delineators. "This is a big one," Johnson said, noting the corridor’s length means the $2 million award will not cover the entire project; staff has programmed construction in the 2027 budget and will work through the Idaho Transportation Department’s design approval process.
Johnson said Bridal Canyon has had multiple fatalities in the last five years, a criterion that made the corridor eligible for the safety grant. He described the work as focused on reducing run‑off‑road collisions and improving roadway warnings and surface friction.
The resolution was moved by Counselor Schroeder and seconded by Council President (transcript variant) Klieber; councilors recorded unanimous ayes and the motion carried.
Next steps: Staff will pursue design approvals and refine the project schedule and budget; construction is anticipated to follow design and permitting steps and is not expected before 2027.
