The Board of Mayor and Aldermen on Nov. 4 approved a resolution accepting about $15,000 from Lowe’s Home Improvement to remodel kitchen and living areas at Fire Station 4 as part of the retailer’s multi‑year community project. City staff said the store on West Stone selected Station 4 for this year’s project and will coordinate local vendors for cabinetry and flooring.
A Lowe’s representative told the board crews of roughly 20–30 Lowe’s volunteers are expected to arrive and complete the work in a short, two‑day effort; staff estimated the volunteer labor value in current rates could be "anywhere from $75,000 to $100,000." Fire department leaders described the renovation as a modernization of living space and said operations would be minimally disrupted with a one‑day relocation plan to the nearest station during work.
Council members praised the donation and the chief’s efforts to secure the project. On a motion by Alderman Baker, seconded by Alderman Phillips, the board approved the resolution unanimously.
